A romantic hero is someone who strays from the norm and does what they feel is necessary, not so much others opinions.  A romantic hero is also someone who has been rejected by society. An example of a romantic hero is Hester Prynne, the protagonist in The Scarlet Letter.  One trait of Hester's that is a major characteristic of a romantic hero is her being kicked out of her Puritan society. She gave birth to an illegitimate child and was removed as a member of her town. She handles herself in a different way than most by her ability to cope with hardships, which is extremely important.
Hester was presented with a scarlet letter, as a result of her sin, which she was to wear permanently. She was considered out of the norm by straying from the normal tendency of Puritanism. This proves her to be a hero by not being afraid of independence and responsibility, which most women were at that time.  She is almost in her own world, in that she lives her own life without fear.
Another trait Hester possesses of a romantic hero is her understanding go her inner-self. She knows her limits when it comes to the people and is aware of her social standing. Her inner-self is important because she knows how to cope with all of the hate and backlash she receives. She has a strong soul and is very peaceful throughout all of her hardships. Hester is a great example of a romantic hero due to her constant struggles and her ability to get back up afterwards.
