Non- Stop describes Hamilton in great detail, from his successes to his failures. Towards the beginning of the rap, at 0:10, Burr's envy for Hamilton was shown even more,"Even though we started at the very same time Alexander Hamilton began to climb How to account for his rise to the top? Man, the man is Non-stop". This quote emphasizes how all Burr wants is to be the best lawyer but Hamilton is more successful. Hamilton's many layers were shown in this song, he is portrayed as a confident man who wants the best for his country. He was given the task to be the lawyer for the Constitution, but humbly stepped down and offered the position to Burr in hopes of him being more successful," I know I talk too much, I'm abrasive You're incredible in court. You're succinct, persuasive My client needs a strong defense. You're the solution.", this quote describes the type of person he is. He is willing to step down from such an honor for the sake of his country.
This rap is competitive and high speed. Both Hamilton and Burr are competing back and forth about their personal accomplishments. Burr uses repetition when he repeats himself talking about Hamilton's confidence, "Why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room? Why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room? Why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room?". By Burr saying that it emphasizes how jealous he really is. Another literary technique used is personification when Burr keeps referring to Hamilton as non-stop. He not only repeats himself numerous times but also says it to describe how hard working Hamilton was in order to accomplish what he did.
This song was extremely quick with its lyrics however the music allowed the audience to experience some sort of calm. Even though the lyrics are aggressive and are insulting, the song makes one feel happy. After listening to this song, it motivates me to work even harder after seeing what it can do. Burr explained how much Hamilton was able to accomplish even though he was an illegitimate child. It really provides the audience with encouragement to fulfill their dreams even if they get dragged down. I found it surprising when Hamilton gave up his honorary spot as the lawyer for the Constitution to his enemy, Aaron Burr.
