Throughout the play, Hamilton has portrayed an image of humility and success. He is described by Aaron Burr as a successful lawyer and Hamilton shows how humble he is when he steps down as the lawyer of the Constitution, offering it to Burr. It is shown in the son "Your Obedient Servant" when Burr repeats at the beginning of the song, what he said in the first song talking about Hamilton's overcoming hardship,"How does Hamilton An arrogant Immigrant, orphan, bastard, whoreson, somehow endorse Thomas Jefferson, his enemy." The theme that Hamilton has conveyed us also prevalent when he says at 1:22, "I have always worn it on my sleeve, even if I said what you think I said," this shows that he is humble.
Poetic technique has been used a lot in this play but in this song assonance was used at 1:36 when Hamilton says,"Hey, I have not been shy, I am just a guy in the public eye." Repetition is also used when Burr and Company are adding details for foreshadowing the murder of Hamilton at 0:20, when they say,"The room where it happens. The room where it happens. By Burr repeating it, it signifies the importance of knowing the room in which Hamilton is murdered by him.
The tone of this song is formal but direct. It got straight to the point when describing Hamilton but it was not the most positive. I did feel happy after listening to it, I felt uneasy. The song foreshadowed his murder multiple times and Hamilton and Burr are arguing through the entirety of the song. What stood out to me was when Hamilton referred to Burr as Mr. Vice President because that symbolizes respect, which Hamilton has for Burr. Unfortunately Burr does not feel the same way.
