Kanye:
Okay, Okay
How long was your last relationship, a day?
At least I know how to make ‘em stay
because I got a bae,
How ‘bout you Tay Tay?
Taylor:
Hey, hey, hey
You be acting cray
All day, every day Kanye.
This ain’t gonna fly,
so pack your bags and say goodbye.
K:
We all know I made you famous,
So don’t you start to blame us.
T:
You did no such thing,
all you have is bling.
‘Cause my songs make bank,
sorry to be frank.
K:
You know I’m the real winner,
you’re the bigger sinner,
we know you’re lying
and fake crying.
Don’t play these games with me
because you know I can’t be beat.
T:
How many Grammy’s you got?
I don’t mean to stir the pot,
but the amount I have beats you by a lot.
K:
Who do you have on your side?
I have Kim, my bride.
T:
I have my whole squad behind me,
including Kendall, Selena, and Gigi.
K:
First, you tried to say I used your name without permission,
when really I was just on a mission
to show everyone who you really are,
why do you find that so bizarre?
We have proof of the phone call
so don’t you try to stall.
T:
Well that must’ve been your attempt at a booty call!
I’m not down for that at all.
Don’t play with me like one of North West’s dolls
I’m not a puppet, with strings and all.
K:
Imma be real with you,
are you really feeling 22?
You say you got bad blood,
but you’re really just a goody-two shoes.
T:
I knew you were trouble,
I wish we could go back to December,
before everything had changed.
You thought you could take me down
with one single blow,
but you don’t know what you don’t know.
All you are is mean!
K:
I’ve been accused of picking on the weaker man,
because they all knew you couldn’t stand a chance.
Put on your big girl pants!
T:
No one man could have all that power,
your clock’s ticking every hour.
You’re running out of time,
before I claim this trophy as mine.
K:
I ain’t saying you’re a gold digga
but you always seem to have a new man with ya.
What ever happened to Taylor Lautner?
Did you find someone hotter?
You can’t find a better man than me, there’s no way
Get you a man that loves you as much as Kanye loves Kanye.
T:
Kanye, Kanye, Kanye, please
Winning that grammy was simply a breeze.
You always talk about how great you are,
but you’re just jealous I’m a bigger star.
In this rap battle between Taylor Swift, pop/country singer and icon and Kanye West, notorious rapper, many poetic techniques were used in creating a competitive rap. One technique that was used is Taylor insults Kanye's age in relation to hers by using personification, "your clock's ticking every hour." This is personification in the sense that age is being compared to an inanimate object, a clock. Me and Sofie's rhymes throughout the rap were simple, however we used complexity when we implemented slant rhyme on numerous occasions.
Ethos was used in almost every single line of our rap. We both attacked one another characters ethos. When Kanye, in the opening line, says Taylor cannot maintain a relationship, he is attacking her personal character. Taylor implements pathos when she expresses her desire to go back in time to a healthy friendship between the two of them, "I wish we could go back to December,
before everything had changed." They both put down each other to get themselves ahead, which is a perfect example of ethos.
Hamilton was a play full of enthusiasm and energy. I thoroughly enjoyed this play, especially since I had never heard of it before class. One song that stood out to me and is still stuck in my head is "My Shot". That song was filled with repetition, foreshadowing, and symbolism. This song can connect to our rap in the fact that Hamilton is defending himself and Taylor and Kanye are both attempting to do the same. Listening to Hamilton as a whole gave me the inspiration necessary to compose a rap in which two enemies are battling for supremacy. Kanye and Taylor are the modern day version of Hamilton and Burr.
